1 cup butter or shortening
½ cup sugar
½ cup brown sugar
1 egg
2¼ cups flour
½ tsp soda
½ tsp salt
2 tsp cinnamon
¼ tsp nutmeg
¼ tsp cloves
½ cup chopped walnuts

Directions:
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 375ºF.

2. Cream together butter and sugars; add egg and beat well

3. Sift together dry ingredients; stir into creamed mixture. Add nuts.

4. Shape into rolls about 2½ inches across. Wrap in plastic or wax paper and chill thoroughly.

5. Slice very thin, 1/8 inch or less. Bake 1 inch apart on parchment paper or greased cooky sheet for 5 to 7 minutes or until delicately browned.

My Nana regularly had these warm out of the oven when we would come to visit. I found the recipe in her special cookbook, it was from Better Homes & Gardens, November 1957.
