1/2 c shortening
1 1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
2 oz red food coloring
1 tsp red food coloring
1 tsp vanilla
2 tsp cocoa
1 tsp salt
1 cup buttermilk
2 1/2 cup cake flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda

Mix and bake in greased layer pans for 30 minutes at 350ºF.

Frosting
Cook 1 cup milk and 3 T flour until thick. Cream 1 cup butter and 1 cup sugar. Add milk mixture 1 spoon at a time and beat. Add 1 tsp vanilla. Frost cake.
