"As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste of the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy, and to make plans."--Ernest Hemingway

Personal Notes:
I have many wonderful childhood memories of Auntie Yawrie. Ryan and I would take turns having sleepovers at her house; I can vividly remember being put to bed in her bedroom and getting to listen to a whole side of a record as I fell asleep. I remember making Christmas ornaments together out of fimo. I remember reading Charlotte’s Web with her – I have a vivid memory of sitting of her lap and picturing Wilbur’s pen. I remember her towing me around at the swimming pool. I remember her modifying a giant red onesie (full length long underwear) with “SW” on the bum for my dad – whom she called Super Willie, and occasionally does to this day. Auntie Yawrie, of course, is also a favourite aunt to my kids – with care packages from afar and lots of fun, including joining them trick or treating, when she visits.

Laurie, you generous and loving nature, your natural warmth and your fabulous laugh have made you a wonderful, valuable presence in my life, throughout my life. I’m so happy you’re enjoying your retirement with so many projects and activities, each of which enrich those around you. Happy birthday, Auntie Yawrie!
