¾ c. shortening
1 egg
½ tsp. salt
½ tsp. clove
1 tsp. cinammon
1 c. sugar
2 ¼ c. flour
2 tsp. soda
t tsp. ginger
¼ c. molasses

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and mix in sugar gradually. Add egg and beat well. Sift dry ingredients and add alternately
with molasses. Shape into balls.

Grease baking sheet. Bake at 325 degrees for 12 minutes.

One of my mother's many cookie recipes and one of the first things I learned to cook. I won a baking contest in Junior High School with this recipe. Experiment with the flour as it makes difference in how flat these cookies bake.
