6 ounce jar maraschino cherries 18-20 cherries - approx. 1/4 cup finely diced
24 Chocolate Hershey’s Lava Kisses
or Dove Chocolate Heart Shaped Candy or big chocolate chip
1 cup butter softened
1 cup powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
4 teaspoons maraschino cherry juice from jar
1 teaspoon Vanilla
8 drops of red food coloring
2 1/2 cups flour divided

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line cookie sheet with parchment paper then set aside.
2. Next, finely dice cherries then set them aside. (Save cherry juice.)
3. Unwrap chocolates and freeze them.
4. In a medium mixing bowl cream butter and powdered sugar then add salt and baking powder. Continue to cream with an electric mixer until a creamy consistency is achieved.
5. Stir in cherry juice, vanilla and food coloring then stir until well combined.
6. Mix 2 cups of flour into the creamed mixture and continue to mix until dough is formed.
7. Fold in diced cherries. Then add the remaining 1/2 cup of flour. Use your hands to blend the flour into the dough.
8. Roll dough into 1" balls. Chill dough in the refrigerator for 10 minutes.
9. Place dough on the prepared baking sheet. Do not flatten the dough balls on the pan.
10. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes.
11. Remove cookies from the pan then immediately press a chocolate kiss into the center of each cookie. 12. Cool cookies and place cookies in the refrigerator for 10 minutes to ensure the chocolate has set.
Store them at room temperature in an airtight container.
