CRUST:
1 1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup butter or Crisco
1 tsp. Baking powder
Milk- just enough to hold it together

Using a pastry blender or 2 knives, mix flour, baking powder and butter until very fine pieces. Add milk gradually just until pieces barely stick together like pie crust dough. Form into a ball. Either roll out on a pastry board with flour or take 2 pieces of parchment paper, one on each side of dough, and roll out to about 3/8th in thick (a little thicker than pie crust). Slice into 1 1/2 or 2 inch strips.

FILLING:

Take either fresh or frozen fruit (peaches, black berries, cherries) and lay out in 9 x 13 or 12 X 12 baking dish. Add a generous amount of sugar and 1/2 thinly sliced butter over it. I usually use fruit that has been put up in the freezer with Fruit Fresh and sugar so it has it's own juice but also use fresh blackberries too. If the fruit is very dry, add a little liquid but it will make its own juice when cooking. Lay crust strips over the fruit in lattice work pattern. Top the crust strips with the rest of the thinly sliced stick of butter and a generous amount of sugar. Bake at 400º until top is brown and juice is bubbly.
