Ingredients:
1 C. shortening
2 C. sugar
2 eggs
5½ C. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 C. sour cream
2 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together shortening, sugar, eggs, sour cream, vanilla. Sift flour, baking powder, soda, salt, nutmeg. Add the sifted ingredients to the creamed ingredients. You can refrigerate for an hour to help the flavors blend. These are roll out cookies and so sift flour onto the surface and add half of the dough. Roll out the dough until it is ½" thick. Use Christmas cookie cutters to cut out the cookies. Dip the cutter into flour for the first couple of times. Bake cookies 350º oven for 8-10 mins. You can touch a cookie with your finger and if the dough springs back, the cookie is done. Let stand on the pan for two minutes. This cookie will stay soft on the inside. You may frost with butter cream frosting, powdered sugar frosting or sprinkle with colored sugar. My favorite is the sugar.

High Altitude: Add ¼ to a ½ C. extra flour and bake at 375º .

Personal Notes:
This recipe is only a HALF recipe from Loretta Kloberdanz! The original recipe calls for over 10 C of flour. They were a big production as Christmas drew near. We had many fun times as a whole family baking and decorating these cookies. We also made them at
Valentine's Day and Halloween.
