12 slices of rye bread
1 lb thinly sliced corned beef (not canned)
1 lb thinly sliced swiss cheese
Thousand Island Dressing
1 large can sauerkraut
1 apple

Drain sauerkraut in colander. Rinse in water. Place in saucepan and add water just to cover. Slice an apple and care, add to sauerkraut. Simmer ½ hour.

Butter one slide of bread slices. Spread Thousand Island Dressing on other side of bread slice. Layer the following: Cheese, corned beef and sauerkraut (drained with slotted spoon), cheese on half of the bread. Top with other slice of bread. Grill in fryer pan on each side.

Hint: Although you can use store bought 1000 Island Dressing the secret to these reubens is to make your own using the following:
1 c Hellman’s mayo
¼ c ketchup
1/8 c sweet pickle relish
Mix together
