1 small jar red maraschino cherries, cut in half
3/4 cup shortening (solid Crisco)
2 eggs, beaten
2 cups sugar
3 cups flour
1 tsp cinnamon
pinch of salt
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp cloves
1 tbsp soda
2 cups unsweetened applesauce
1 cup raisins
1 cup walnuts, chopped (black walnuts are the best for this cake)

Directions:
Directions:
Mix together the shortening, sugar and beaten eggs. Sift together the flour, spices and soda. Add to the first mixture, along with the applesauce, raisins, and walnuts. Grease and lightly flour bundt cake pan. Pour batter in pan making sure it is spread evenly in pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hr and 15 min. Remove from oven and let set for about 5 minutes before removing from pan.
