2 sticks butter
1 c sugar
3 eggs
2 t vanilla
1/2 t almond extract (optional)
31/2-4 c flour
1 t baking powder
1/2 t baking soda
1 cup+ chopped or slivered almonds

dried fruit
chocolate chips
cinnamon chips
use your imagination for add ins

Directions:

Cream butter and sugar.
Add eggs and extracts.
Mix dry ingredients and add to creamed mixture.
Add nuts etc.
Make a log (3) and knead a bit so the texture is like clay. Place on a parchment lined baking
sheet.
Bake 350º oven 20-30 minutes until lightly browned.
Cool 10-20 minutes before slicing on a diagonal.
Place back in the oven for 10 minutes to dry out. They will become crispier as they cool.

Optional
Dip in dark or white chocolate, add sprinkles for fun

This is my mother, Phyllis’ recipe. It has taken me a lifetime to perfect it, but I still cannot slice them as beautifully as she did. Perhaps if you make them, you will be able to do it!
