1 cup butter, room temperature
1 1/2 cups sugar
3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 3/4 cups flour
pinch salt
2 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 teaspoon baking soda

Directions:
Directions:
In a large brown, beat together butter, sugar, vanilla and eggs until light and fluffy. Beat in flour, salt, baking powder and baking soda until thoroughly blended. Divide dough into 2 equal portions. Wrap and refrigerate until firm, several hours or overnight.
To bake, preheat oven to 350º. Grease baking sheets. On a floured surface, roll dough 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. With lightly floured cookie cutters, cut into desired shapes. Place 1 1/2" apart on greased baking sheets. Bake 7-9 minutes or until pale in color. Baking time will depend on size and thickness of cookies. Watch carefully.
Remove cookies from baking sheets, cool on racks.
Options:
1. Before baking sprinkle with decorative sugar.
2. After cooled they can be frosted.
