"A man who was fond of wine was offered some grapes at dessert after dinner. "Much obliged," said he, pushing the plate aside; "I am not accustomed to take my wine in pills."--Jean Antheleme Brillat-Savarin, The Physiology of Taste

Personal Notes:
I have been enjoying this recipe for over 50 years. The original Valentine Oatmeal Cookie appeared in 1957. When I lost my recipe, I checked online and low and behold . . . found it right away. That was a crushing blow, I thought it was just in the family.
I loved every bite of these cookies. I still make them every Valentine's Day.
While the recipe clipping didn't have an author, it appeared on the same page as an advertisement for Great Western Cereal Co.'s, Mother Oats, which Quaker acquired in 1911. It's probably safe to assume the food company provided it to Press food editor,
Or it was just that the iced cookies became a favorite of baby boomers because they were no-nonsense.
This tradition started with my mom. Debbie and I always make Valentine Oatmeal cookies. All McKinney kids love this recipe. I hope you will share in our appreciation for this simple but delicious cookie.
