1/2 cup soft shortening (part butter)
1 cup brown sugar (packed)
1 egg
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 3/4 cups flour
1/2 tsp. soda
1/4 tsp salt
4 1/2 tbsp cocoa powder

Directions:
Directions:
Mix shortening, sugar, egg, and vanilla thoroughly. Measure flour by dip-level-pour method or by sifting. Blend flour, baking soda, and salt; stir in. Form into roll (log like) 2 1/2 inch across. Wrap in wax paper. Chill until firm. Heat oven to 400 degrees Farenheit. With a thin sharp knife, slice 1/8 inch thick. Place a little apart on ungreased baking sheet. Bake 8 to 10 min. Makes about 5 dozen cookies.
