4 sq (1 oz each) unsweetened milk chocolate
1 ½ c undiluted evaporated milk
4 c sugar
dash of salt
¼ c butter or oleo
1 tsp vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Stir milk and chocolate together over low heat or in a double broiler. Beat with spoon to blend. Add sugar and salt. Cook stirring often (especially if you do not use double broiler). Stir until it reaches a boil (or 238º on candy thermometer. Cook until soft ball forms in a cup of cold water. Remove from heat. Add butter; cool without stirring until lukewarm (110º). Add vanilla and beat until creamy and mixture loses gloss. Pour into 9x14 buttered dish or pan. Cut when firm. You can add nuts, raisins, coconut, etc.
