16 slices of bread cut into1½ inch cubes, crusts removed
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (8 oz.)
Meat- ham, bacon or sausage
Combine: 6 large eggs and 2 cups milk
¼ cup melted butter

Directions:

Preheat oven to 400 º
Grease 9x13 pan
Add ½ of bread, ½ meat, ½ cheese
Repeat layering
Poor egg mixture over bread
Drizzle butter over top
Cover with foil
When ready to cook place a pan of water in the oven on the lower rack, loosen foil on egg dish and bake for 50 minutes. The last 15 minutes of baking, remove the foil so dish can brown on top.

This is Grandma's original recipe. I have cut way back on the cheese and butter amounts that are listed. I also use wheat bread and do not remove the crusts! Be creative, you can add spinach, tomatoes, green chilies or mushrooms to make your own version of the recipe. Enjoy!
