Directions:
Using an electric mixer, beat together cake mix, butter, water and eggs in a large bowll on low speed for one minute. Scrape the bowl constantly but do not overbeat. Pour half the batter into the greased and floured 9 X 13 in pan. Bake in preheated 350º oven for 25 minutes. While cake is baking, heat carmels and evaporated milk in 1 qt saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly, until caramels are completely melted. Stir in pecans. When cake comes out of the oven, pour caramel mixture over warm cake in the pan, sprinkle with chocolate chips and spread the remaining batter. Bake for another 30 minutes. Cool completely, about 1 hour. Serve with ice cream or cool whip.
