2 c. all purpose flour
1-1/2 t ground cinnamon
1 t ground ginger
1 t baking soda
1/4 t ground cloves
1/2 t kosher salt
1/2 c (1 stick) unsalted butter
1/4 c granulated sugar, plus another 1/2 c for rolling
1/4 c dark brown sugar
1/3 c molasses
1 lg egg

Directions:
In a medium-size bowl, combine flour, cinnamon, ginger, baking soda, cloves, and salt.
In another lg bowl, combine the butter, 1/4 c white sugar, brown sugar, and molasses. Beat in the egg. Beat in the dry ingredients; the dough should be fairly stiff. Refrigerate the dough for about 2 hours.
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Scoop the dough up by teaspoons and roll them in remaining 1/2 c white sugar. Please balls on a baking sheet 2" apart. Using the bottom of a glass, flatten the cookies to about 1/4" thick.
Bake 7-1/2 minutes just until set. Remove cookies from baking sheet and cool on wire rack.
