3 cups sugar
1 cup Crisco
½ tsp. soda
pinch salt
½ tsp. vanilla
3 cups flour
1 cup buttermilk
6 eggs
1 tsp. lemon extract

Directions:
Directions:
Start with all ingredients at room temperature. Cream sugar and Crisco. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add milk (add soda to buttermilk) and flour alternately; starting and ending with the flour. Grease and flour a tube cake pan. Bake in a slow (350º) oven; starting with a cold oven. Bake one hour and fifteen minutes or until golden brown.

This recipe was from our great-grandmother "Grandma Henderson". Her name was Dee Mulliken, but because we were so lucky to have both grandmothers and great- grandmothers living, we had to get creative with the names. Grandma Henderson lived in Henderson, TX, thus the name, but for many years I thought that was her last name.
