½ cup butter or margarine
½ cup sugar
1 egg
1 ¼ cups sifted flour
½ tsp baking soda
¾ cup diced almonds, roasted
¼ cup shortening
½ tsp maple flavoring
1 tbs cream or milk
1 tsp cream of tartar
½ tsp salt

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter, shortening, sugar, and maple flavoring until fluffy. Add egg and cream; beat thoroughly. Sift flour, cream of tartar, soda, and salt together into the creamed mixture. Add almonds and mix to moderately stiff dough. Cover and chill several hours. Roll dough out on floured board to about ⅛ inch thickness. Cut with large holiday cutter. Bake on lightly greased baking sheets at 425º for 5 to 7 minutes. Cool on wire rack before storing in air-tight container.
