1 c. shortening
2 c. sugar (scant)
1 c. sour milk (I add 1 tsp. vinegar to milk)
½ tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanila or more
1 tsp. nutmeg or more
2 beaten eggs
1 tsp. soda (scant)
1 tsp. baking powder
3 c. flour, more or less

Directions:
Directions:
Mix shortening, sugar and eggs together.
Add milk, flour, salt, soda and flavorings. Add to the mixture
Once mixed, let stand in refrigerator over night.
Roll out and cut out cookies with biscuit cutter or glass.
Bake in hot oven (I use 400º) until slightly brown on top.
Sprinkle tops with sugar.

Many great memories of the Harrington women making these. One of the many things we looked forward to as children visiting family in upstate New York.

This is a "soft" sugar cookie. The dough can really be difficult to manage. Add flour as necessary but keeping to the least amount in orde to manage rolling out the dough.
