1 1/2 cups softened butter
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 egg
1 Tablespoon Vanilla
3 cups flour
1/4 teaspoon salt

Icing
Lots of powdered sugar 2 - 3 cups
1 Tablespoon butter or shortening
Tiny amount milk ( add a little at a time to make right consistency
Vanilla or Almound flavoring ( Adams Best)
Food coloring

Directions:

Cream together softened butter, powdered sugar,
Add egg beat well
Add dry ingredients Mix well
Separate into 4 separate amounts
Place on wax paper cut long enough to sand which the dough in the middle
Roll dough to 1/2 thickness
Refrigerate ( could do this over night or just several hours)
Remove the wax paper dough sheets one at a time
Open the wax paper
Flour the wax paper
Roll as thin as desired. I like crisp cookies
Cut with cookie cutters
Bake at 325 degrees until slightly browned on edges about 7 - 9 minutes
Cool and remove from pan
Decorate with icing

I used to make these every holiday. My kids friends still remember them. They taste good.
David loved the burnt ones! He said it gave them even better flavor. Lol He would ask me to burn some for him.❤️
