GERMAN SOUR CREAM TWIST COOKIES from Pat Gillies makes 5 dozen

3 ½ cups flour
1 tsp salt
1 cup shortening [1/2 part butter]
1 pkg dry yeast
¼ hot water
¾ cup sour cream
1 egg
2 egg yolks well beaten
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup sugar

Directions:

Mix by hand
Sift flour & salt then cut in shortening
Add dissolved yeast [dissolved in hot water]
Stir in flour mix with sour cream, eggs & vanilla [mix well by hand]
Cover with damp cloth put in fridge to chill [overnight is ok]
Roll ½ of dough on sugared board in 8x16 rectangle…fold ends to center [overlap] and sprinkle with sugar..repeat, roll out again to 8x16…fold and sprinkle with sugar…repeat a 3rd time….then roll out to ¼ inch thick and cut into 1x4 inch strips. Twist ends and stretch slightly and put in horseshoe shape on ungreased cookie sheet and press ends to keep shape. Bake 375* 15 minutes [until brown]

use parchment paper for ease of removing after baking
