Dough
1 cup Sugar
⅔ cup Shortening (double batch 1⅓ cup)
⅓ cup Milk
3 cup Flour
3 tsp Baking Powder
½ tsp Salt
1 tsp Vanilla
1 Egg

Filling
½ cup Sugar
1 Tb Flour
½ cup Water
1 cup Chopped Dates

Directions:
Directions:
Mix all ingredients for filling into a pot and cook over medium heat stirring constantly. When thick take off burner and cool.

For dough, mix sugar and shortening, add egg and beat until fluffy. Now stir in milk and vanilla. Then add the dough dry ingredients and mix well. Roll out dough on floured surface until thin. Cut dough into circles.

Place 1 tsp of cooled filling onto a cut out dough circle and cover with another circle. Pinch edges to seal.

Place on a greased cooking sheet and bake in a 350º oven for 10 to 15 minutes.

Remove when done and cool,
