Crumb mixture:

1 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 c. brown sugar
1 1/2 c. rolled oats
1 c. melted butter
1 c. chopped pecans

Filling:

1 pkg. or 40 dates (chopped)
1 c. water
1 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla (add later)

Directions:
Directions:
Cook filling till thick and smooth, add vanilla. Let cool.

To prepare crumb mixture: stir together all ingredients. Mix thoroughly with hands.

Pat 1/2 of crumb mixture into a shallow pan which is greased and floured. Put date filling on top and add remaining crumb mixture, patting down well.

Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Cool and cut into strips. Sprinkle powered sugar
