4 cups sifted flour
1 tsp baking soda
(3 tsp baking powder)*
1 tsp salt ( 1/4 tsp)*
1 cup of butter or margarine
2 cups sugar (2 1/4 cups)*
2 large eggs
2 tsp vanilla (plus 1 tsp coconut extract)*
1 1/2 cups buttermilk or sour milk (1 cup sour milk - canned milk and lemon juice)*

Topping
1/2 cup white sugar
2 tsp ground cinnamon

Mix ingredients. Chill dough.
Grandma rolled out the dough, cut round shapes with a glass.
Bake 400 degrees for 10 - 12 minutes

Cinnamon Jumbles may have been the original recipe for Grandma's cookies and she just tweaked it a bit. She didn't have a recipe written down but when Barbara was visiting with her, she watched her make them and wrote directions down. Cinnamon Jumbles dates back to the 1890's when they were one of the favorite cookies in the United States. Cake like in texture.
