DOUGH:

½ cup shortening

1 cup sugar

1 egg

½ cup milk

3½ cups flour

2 tsp baking powder

1 tsp baking soda

1 tsp vanilla

More flour may be added to handle better.


FILLING:

¾ cup sugar

1 cup dates

1 cup boiling water

1½ tbsp flour

½ tsp salt

Cook until mixture thickens. Chopped nuts may be added.

Prepare filling per the ingredients listed above.

Mix dough ingredients well until smooth to the consistancy of pie crust dough.

Roll dough out and place spoon fulls of the filling spaced about 2 inches apart.

Roll over and encase filling with the dough.

Place the dough/filling balls on a cookie sheet and bake for 10 to 12 minutes at 375º
