2/3 cup shortening [I use butter]
2 cups sugar
3 eggs
5 T. cocoa
1 t. red food coloring
5 T. hot coffee
21/2 cups flour
11/3 t. salt11/3 t soda
11/3 cup sour milk [buttermilk]
11/3 t. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs and beat well until blended. Make a paste of cocoa, coloring and coffee and add at once to creamed mixture. Sift together flour, salt and soda and alternately add with milk to mixture. Add vanilla. Divide batter into 8x8x2" layer pans [or 9x12] and bake in preheated oven at 350. for 40-45 minutes.
