1 cup warm milk
½ cup sugar
½ cup shortening or lard melted
3 beaten eggs
2 tsp salt
2-3 yeast packets
¼ cup warm water
4 cups flour
½ tsp ground Mace

Directions:
Directions:
Warm milk and allow to cool completely. Add sugar, salt, melted lard, eggs, and yeast. Mix

Gradually add flour
Roll into walnut sized balls.
Put on baking sheets that have been greased.

Let rise in warm place.
Put indentations in balls with small floured glass end.
Put filling in and let rise again.

Bake 400º till very light brown. About 15 minutes

Grandma Short, Aunt Marie, and Aunt Anna used to make these for all big family gatherings. They are traditionally served with the meal as the dough is savory. I have combined my Aunt Anna's recipe with that of a good friend's great grandmother.
