2- Mix in 2 c flour to make sponge
3- Let sponge rise in a warm place for 1/2 hour or till "light"

Serve with sugar on the side for a traditional New Years treat!

**oil needs to be hot but not boiling. Too hot and cookies will brown too fast leaving insides not cooked. Check one of the first cooked ones for center doneness and adjust heat under oil as needed through process.

Another infamous mennonite tradition.Leave the raisins out for those who don't like them, or if making them to serve with ham and potato soup or borscht.
