2/3 c soft shortening, part butter
1/2 c granulated sugar
1/2 c brown sugar, packed
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 c all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 c chopped nuts
1 c semisweet chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 375 degrees

Mix shortening, sugars, egg and vanilla thoroughly. Measure flour by dip,
level and pour method or by sifting. Blend dry ingredients; stir into
shortening mixture. Mix in nuts and chocolate chips. Drop by rounded
teaspoonful, two inches apart onto un-greased baking sheet or parchment
paper lined cookie sheet. Bake 8 to 10 minutes. Cool slightly before
removing from pan. Yields 4 to 5 dozen 2 inch cookies.

I make in a double batch usually. They go pretty fast!
