1/2 lb butter
2 eggs
1 1/3 cups sugar
4 Tbsp. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
rind of 1/2 a lemon
3 2/3 cups flour
1/4 tsp. salt
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/8 tsp. mace (extra flavor)
1 egg yolk
1 Tbsp. milk
sugar, nuts, jimmies for topping
1 beaten egg white
2 Tbsp. sugar

Cream butter, 2 eggs, 1 1/3 cup sugar, 4 Tbsp. milk, vanilla and lemon rind. Sift flour, salt and baking powder (and mace if added). Add to creamed mixture. Mix well. Chill dough for at least 2 hours. That way it is much easier to handle. Roll out very thin. Cut with desired cookie cutters. Brush with a mixture of 1 egg yolk and 1 Tbsp. milk. Sprinkle with jimmies, sugar or nuts. Make a meringue with 1 beaten egg white and 2 Tbsp. sugar. Place 1/2 tsp. on the center of each cookie and sprinkle with nuts and sugar. Bake at 350F for 10 to 12 mintues.
