2/3 cup butter
1 1/4 cup sugar
1/2 tsp. lemon rind
1 tsp. vanilla
pinch of mace or nutmeg
1 jigger of rum
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking powder
2/3 cup milk
3 eggs
1/2 cup nuts or currants (if desired)

Directions:
Directions:
For best results use sweet butter. Take 2/3 cup butter and 1 1/4 cup sugar and cream well. Add lemon rind, vanilla, mace or nutmeg and rum. Sift flour, salt and baking powder. Blend with butter and sugar mixture with milk. When blended add eggs, one at a time, beating each one in well. If preferred add nuts or currants. Pour into loaf pan or a spring mold. Bake at 325ºF for 1 hour 15 minutes.
