½ cake yeast
2 cups scalded milk
2 cups flour
4 egg yolks
1 whole egg
½ cup sugar
½ cup melted butter
½ tsp vanilla
1 tsp salt
Additional 4 1/2-5 cups flour

Oil to fry donuts

Cinnanmon sugar mix
1 cup sugar
2 T cinnamon

Dissolve yeast in warm water, add to cooled scalded milk. Add 2 cups flour, and beat. Let stand for 30 minutes.

Beat egg yolks and egg until light. Add sugar, butter, vanilla and salt. Add to sponge mixture. Add 4 1/2 cups flour, cover and let rise for 90 minutes. Turn on floured board and cut with donut cutter. Let rise 15 minutes. Fry in oil at 375º. Drain on paper towels. Dip in cinnamon sugar mixture.

I remember G-MA making these when I was little. She would drain them on a brown grocery bag instead of paper towels. She would sometimes glaze the donuts, but she liked the sugar cinnamon the best. She would usually give these to the Clearview neighbors since this recipe made so many, and everyone really liked them. G-MA was a great baker.
