FIRST BOWL
egg
¾ cup packed dark brown sugar
1 cup dark Karo syrup
SECOND BOWL
2 ½ cups flour
2 tsp. baking soda
⅛ tsp. salt
THIRD BOWL
2 cups buttermilk or sour milk (1 T. vinegar to 1 cup of milk)

2½ cups Wheaties Cereal
1 cup raisins, if desired

Directions:
Directions:
Prepare each of the 3 bowls. Slowly combine all 3 bowls together. Fold in Wheaties/raisins. Bake 1 hour at 325º in soup cans ½ filled. (Before filling cans, place a drop of Crisco in bottom of can to prevent sticking). Place cans in a circle in the oven with a can of water in the middle for steaming. Let sides cool before removing bread.

This recipe is from Grandpa Lou Ruehl's mom. Brown bread was always a favorite of the Ruehl clan & shared over Christmas holidays.
