2lbs lean beef stew meat
1 Tbs shortening
1 ½ tsp salt
1 lb can tomatoes
⅓ cup brown sugar
⅓ cup vinegar
2 Tbs instant minced onion
1 small green pepper
1 bay leaf

Directions:
Directions:
Brown beef on all sides in heated shortening. Add all remaining ingredients except green pepper. Cover and cook slowly about 2 hours or until tender. Cut green pepper in thin strips, add to meat and cook about 15 minutes longer.

Serve over rice.
