1 cup sugar
1 1/2 t baking powder
1/2 cup soft butter
1 egg, plus 1 yolk (reserve white)
1 t grated lemon peel
1 3/4 cups flour
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 t cinnamon
1/2 t cloves

Directions:
Directions:
Mix sugar, baking powder, butter, egg and yolk, and lemon peel for one minute then add flour. ON floured cloth, roll cookie dough 1/4 at a time, 1/8 inch thick. Cut with floured cuter. If too soft to roll cool 15 minutes. Place on greased sheet one inch apart. Use egg white to brush cookies. Combine spices with sugar and sprinkle over cookies. Press one whole almond into each cookie. Bake 350º for 8 to 10 minutes. Remove from cookie sheet immediately.
