2 c. sugar
1 c. Crisco
1 c. buttermilk
4 egg whites
2-1/2 c. plain flour
4 egg yolks
1 tsp. vanilla
1 pkg. German chocolate
1 tsp. soda
¼ tsp. salt
1 c. boiling water


Directions:
Directions:
Pour boiling water over chocolate and leave to melt. Beat egg whites stiff but not dry. Cream sugar and Crisco, add egg yolks, add ¾ cup of the buttermilk alternately with flour. Dissolve soda in ¼ cup of buttermilk, add salt and vanilla. Add chocolate, fold in egg whites. Makes 4 large layers.

Filling for German Chocolate Cake:

1 stick oleo
1 c. pet milk
1 c. chopped pecans
1 c. coconut
1 c. white sugar
3 eggs

Combine all in a boiler, stir constantly until thick. Put between layers and on top of cake.
