Ingredients: I've been on the search for the recipe for what I called coffee can sugar cookies-- because grandma sent them with us in a coffee can --they were also the size of a coffee can! So we have this recipe which is titled Grandma Lorraine's cut-out sugar cookies and had it marked "just ok not great" so I don't think it's the right one. 1 c sugar 1 c butter 2 eggs 3 T sour cream or sour milk 1 tsp soda 3 c flour 1/4 tsp salt 1 tsp vanilla
375* 5-10 minutes
We also have this recipe titled Gail's White Cookies: 2 c sugar 1 c butter 2 eggs 1 c sour cream 1 tsp soda 1/4 tsp nutmeg 4 1/2 c flour Roll thin, sprinkle with sugar.
and this one called Grandpa's Sugar Cookies 1 c lard or 1 1/4 c shortening 1 1/2 c sugar 2 eggs 1/3 c milk or orange juice 1 tsp nutmeg 3/4 tsp salt 1 tsp soda 1 tsp baking powder 2 tsp vanilla 3 c flour Roll out and cut with cookie cutter
425* 10-12 min
and yet another titled Mother's Sugar Cookies from Alyce 5 c flour 2 c sugar 1 tsp soda 1 tsp baking powder 1/2 tsp salt 1/4 tsp nutmeg 1 c butter or butter/oleo mix 3 eggs 1/2 c buttermilk 1 tsp vanilla
Sift flour & 1 cup sugar & next 4 ingredients. Cut in butter. Mix with fingers. Beat eggs slightly & add rest of sugar. Blend in buttermilk & vanilla. Chill before rolling. Sprinkle with sugar before baking. That is the order of the written insructions but doesn't say when to add wet to dry. 375* 8-15 min until slightly brown.

Directions:So there you have it.... I don't know if any of these are coffee can cookies or not! Knowing grandma, it's likely none of these are the actual recipe! |
