Flour as needed - white and wholewheat
¼ c. bran

2 by handfuls 100% Wholewheat Flour

1/2 heaping teaspoon of baking powder

Handful of Baking Soda

1 tsp. Salt

Handful of Sugar

3 cups Buttermilk

1 egg

Butter

Cream or Milk for top

Flour your pan that bread will be cooked on

Fill 3 fruit nappies heaped with flour

put all dry ingredients together , take a little bit of flour and work into dry ingredients , add buttermilk and egg.

mix well with hands , turn onto floured surface and shape into a large round.

when done cut in half , put a 2nd cut half way through the halves.

pour cream or milk over the top to turn brown


Bake at 375 º for 15 min. then 350º for 30 min.
When it smells its Ready ; Knock on it; if it sounds hollow its Ready.
ENJOY! Great with Butter and Branston or Butter and Jellys or Jams

My Granny and I used to make this bread in Scotland and I just love it. The smell brings back memories of us working in her kitchen and the love that she put into everything she cooked.
