1/2 gal milk
3/4 c water
1 1/2 pkg yeast
3 1/2 lbs flour
1/8 c salt
1/2 c sugar
1 lb raisins
1 lb currants
1/2 lb mixed fruit peel
1/4 basket apples

Directions:
Directions:
Heat milk and water until warm. Remove from heat. Mix with flour, yeast, salt and sugar. Let rise.

Peel, core and dice apples.

Wash apples, fruit, raisins and currents and dry with a towel.

Add to flour mixture

Heat oil in a heavy, deep pan until light smoke shows. Form dough into balls with two spoons and put in hot oil. Fry until browned.

Dip in icing sugar and enjoy.

This was always made by my Dad at Christmas time. The smell of the oil bothered him so he drank beer. It was the only time, as a kid that I saw him drink beer.
