2 c. flour
5 tsp. cocoa
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cloves
2 c. sugar
1 c. mashed potatoes
4 eggs separated, slightly beaten
4 egg whites beaten
1c. chopped pecans
1/2 c. raisins
1/2 c. candied cherries (optional)

Preheat oven to 350 F. Grease and lightly flour 2 -9 inch pans. Sift flour, cocoa, baking powder, cinnamon, salt and cloves together. In large bowl, beat butter, sugar, potato and egg yolks till fluffy. Beat in flour about 1 minute and gradually beat egg whites until peaked. Fold egg whites into mixture. Stir in nuts, etc. Pour into pans and bake for 40". Let stand 1 minute before removing .Frost with Caramel frosting.
