Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 c lukewarm water
2 tsp margarine
3 1/4 c flour
1/4 c sugar
8 regular size apples or 5 large apples, peeled and thinly sliced ( could use pears if preferred)
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 - 1/2 c sugar and cinnamon
Melted margarine
Lemon juice
Optional, chopped nuts, raisins, coconut or maraschino cherries.

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375º.
1. Combine the sugar and cinnamon to be used over the apples
2. Melt 1 stick butter to spread on the dough.
3. Place flour in large bowl of mixer, make a well in the flour; add the water, 2 Tbsp margarine, 1/4 c sugar, salt and egg. Mix by mixer until all flour is blended in. Place dough on floured surface and knead until flexible ( about 15 min); divide into 3 equal portions. Place each portion in a small greased bowl, cover with wax paper and a damp cloth. Place in a warm place to rest while the apples are prepared ( about 30 minutes or it will not stretch).
4. Peel and core apples, cut into slices about 1/2 inch thick- sprinkle with lemon juice to prevent discoloration.
5. Rollout dough on floured surface with rolling pin as thinly as possible, then place dough on floured cloth which has been spread out on a working surface and begin to stretch the dough by placing hands under it and pulling and stretching toward yourself, starting in the middle. Work from the center to the outside until it is very thin, then stretch the outside rim of the dough.
Butter the whole sheet of dough; place 1/3 of the apples on the dough, sprinkle with the sugar, cinnamon mixture. Can add any of the optional ingredients if you wish.
Roll up by picking up the cloth and forcing the dough to roll.
Place on a greased pan, brush on melted margarine and if desired, sprinkle more of the Cinnamon/ sugar mix.
Bake for 45 minutes.

Personal Notes:
Grandma’s kitchen was a sight to be seen when she made any food. She would have every surface covered with what she was making. She would serve some but freeze all others. Dinners always included numerous meats, vegetables, and desserts.
