1 cup shortening
2 1/2 cups sugar
4 large eggs
1 cup of cocoa
2 cups hot coffee (or water)
3 cups flour
1 tsp salt
2 tsps. baking soda
1/2 tsp baking powder

Directions:
Directions:
Dissolve cocoa in hot coffee...set aside
Sift flour with salt, baking soda, and baking powder...set aside

Cream butter; add sugar and eggs and beat until smooth. Add cocoa/coffee mixture alternately with dry ingredients. Beat until smooth and creamy.

In a 9" x 15" pan, bake at 350 for 45-55 minutes or until done.
If baking in round layer cake pans, bake at 350 for about 35 minutes or until done.

This is the best chocolate cake ever! My Mom used to use her Buttercream Frosting on this cake - it's a family favorite. As a little girl growing up, I got very excited when Mom made this cake. It was a favorite of Dad too! I think the coffee really makes this cake so good and moist.
