4 Quarts thinly sliced cucumbers
8 white onions peeled and sliced
1/2 cup salt
5 cups sugar
2 tablespoons mustard seed
1 1/2 teaspoons turmeric
1 teaspoon celery seed
5 cups vinegar

Directions:
Directions:
Mix the cucumbers and onions with the salt. Add 2 quarts cracked ice. Let stand covered with a weighted lid for 3 hours, drain thoroughly and bring almost to a boil. Stirring often with a wooden spoon but do not let boil. Pack the pickles into hot jars and seal. Makes 5 pints.
