Ingredients for Crust:
1-½ cups oatmeal
1-½ cups flour
1 cup brown sugar
¾ cup Crisco
1 teaspoon baking soda

Ingredients for the rest:
1 pound dates, chopped fine (about 2-½ cups)
1-½ cups boiling water
1 cup sugar

Directions:
Directions:
1. Mix ingredients for the crust like pie crust.
2. Use half of crust mixture for the bottom.
3. Press in the bottom of 9x13-inch pan.
4. Boil dates and water.
5. Add sugar until thick.
6. Spread on crust mixture.
7. Place other half of crust mixture on the top.
8. Sprinkle top with water.
9. Press lightly.
10. Bake at 350º for 30-35 minutes.

I remember making this for 4-H bake sales. It was always a hit with parents. This recipe was handed down from my Grandma Eunice Krack.

8/10/02 Oooh-lah! lah! Made this for the Krack picnic at Turtle Park near Grand Forks! SO good!
