3/4 C. butter or margarine softened
1/2 C. firmly packed brown sugar
1 egg, separated
1/2 t. vanilla
1 1/3 C. unsifted flour
1/4 t. salt
1 C. finely chopped nuts
jam or jelly; frosting or prepared pie filling

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven 375º. Cream butter and sugar. Beat in egg yolk ( reserve whites) and vanilla. Stir in flour and salt until well mixed. If desired, chill dough for easier handling. Shape dough into balls, rounded teaspoonful of dough for each. Slightly beat egg white. Dip balls into egg whites, then roll in nuts, make slight indentation with thumb. Place 1 inch apart on ungreased baking pans. (Cool) fill centers.
