1 ounce vodka
1 teaspoon sugar syrup (optional)
4 Fresh lime
1/2 cup Reed's ginger brew beer (Trader Joe's)
1 sprig fresh mint

In a copper mug, pour vodka over ice. Cut one lime into wedges or slices and squeeze the juice from the remaining three into a cup. To make the sugar syrup, mix 1 1/2 cups caster sugar and 1 1/2 cups water in a pan over medium heat. Warm up for 5 minutes until the sugar melts. Now at high heat, bring to simmer. Decant into a jug and refrigerate until it becomes cold. Add the lime juice to the syrup and pour a little into each mug. Top up with Reed’s Ginger Brew. Garnish with the mint sprig and lime wedge/slice. For best results, pour all liquid ingredients and ice into a shaker. If you don’t use simple sugar, add 1 TBSP of lime juice. Shake until blended. Pour into copper mug. Garnish as above.

For added pizazz, Ginger Ice Cubes (Cooking Channel): Slice fresh ginger into 1/8-inch thick coins. Use a zester to make long strips of lime zest and curl them into swirls. Add a piece of ginger and zest to each compartment of an ice cube tray, fill with distilled water and freeze overnight.
