6 ⅔ C SIFTED CAKE FLOUR
1 CUP BUTTER
1 C SUGAR
1 TSP CINNAMON
¼ TSP CLOVES
¼ TSP ALLSPICE
½ TSP NUTMEG
¼ C ANISE SEED
2 EGGS, WELL BEATEN
¼ C LIGHT CORN SYRUP
½ MOLASSES
⅓ C WATER
1 TSP SODA

PREHEAT OVEN TO 400º (375º IN CONVECTION OVEN)

CREAM TOGETHER WELL, THE SUGAR AND BUTTER. ADD ANISE SEED, SPICES AND EGGS AND BLEND WITH WHISK. ADD CORN SYRUP AND MOLASSES AND MIX WELL. SIFT FLOUR, MEASURE AND ADD TO LIQUID MIXTURE. CHILL UNTIL FIRM ENOUGH TO ROLL. ROLL ON SLIGHTLY FLOURED BOARD INTO LONG, SLENDER ROLLS, ½" IN DIAMETER. CUT INTO ⅓" PIECES. PLACE CUT SIDE DOWN ON GREASED BAKING SHEET. BAKE FOR 8 MINUTES OR UNTIL GOLDEN BROWN. THEY SHOULD BE AS LARGE AND BROWN AS HAZEL NUTS. DOUGH WILL KEEP SEVERAL WEEKS IN REFRIGERATOR AND COOKIES BAKED AS DESIRED, OR BAKED AND STORED IN COVERED JAR OR ZIPLOC BAG.

THIS WAS A COOKIE THAT MY MOTHER WOULD MAKE EVERY YEAR AT CHRISTMAS TIME. THEY DIDN'T LAST LONG.
