2 eggs
2 Tbsp. water
2 dips of sugar (1 cup or a little more)
1 piece of lard as big as a biscuit (½ cup shortening or butter)
1 tsp. vanilla
2 cups plain flour and more as needed
2 tsp. baking powder

Directions:
Directions:
Mix eggs, water, sugar, shortening and vanilla until cream. Mix flour and baking powder and add to creamed mixture and mix well. Add just enough flour to make a soft workable dough. Put on counter and work (knead) until well worked and then work some more. Divide dough into workable portions and roll out on floured surface; cut with cookie cutter. Bake at 400 º for about 10 minutes.

This was Grandma Russell's recipe that Mother (Lois) watched her prepare and translated the recipe.

Jo: Mother would save her cereal boxes so she could place the cookies in the wax paper and paper clip shut. The cookies stayed moist for travel.
