Directions:
1. Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs, molasses, lemon juice, 1 ginger, cinnamon, and salt.
2. Dissolve soda in hot water. Alternately add the soda water mixture and 4 3/4 cups flour. Add flour as necessary to keep from being too sticky. Chill dough overnight.
3. Roll out on floured pastry cloth and cut out shapes.
4. Bake at 350. Frost if desired.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
*(I use half Crisco and half marg. Mother used to use half lard and half marg.)
**( I usually add some extra flour because I think the dough is too sticky. I'm guessing I add an extra 3/4 cup of flour) ~ Aunt Lorraine
-Steve remembers "sneaking" into the freezer downstairs at Grandma's house to eat these. I (Jeanette) have not been able to successfully recreate these - and probably won't because no one bakes cookies like Grandma!
